St. Louis-based artist Alex Johnmeyer unveils his latest solo exhibition titled “Unboxed” premiering at the Angad Arts Hotel (3550 Samuel Shepard Dr., St. Louis, MO 63103) March 7th through May 31st. This new series features a collection of oil, watercolor, and acrylic paintings, wherein Johnmeyer reflects on his journey as a transgender man, using his childhood in the 1980s and 90s as a lens to explore themes of LGBTQ+ visibility and experience. “Unboxed” captures fragmented memories of a past shaped by pop culture, self-discovery, and the quiet challenges of growing up feeling different.

There will be an opportunity to attend a “Curated Cocktails Artist Talk” with Alex, hosted by the Angad Arts Hotel, on May 12th from 6-8 pm. Tickets cost $15, and includes a Curated Cocktail, walking tour of all the art spaces in the hotel, and a chance to hear more about the stories, symbolism & techniques behind the creation of the works in “Unboxed.”
